AI SEO agency: get your business recommended by ChatGPT

Updated:

Rankeo is an AI SEO agency for small businesses in the U.S. and Mexico. We optimize your website and your presence across the web so ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews can find you, understand what you do and recommend you by name, with classic Google SEO working underneath. Every project starts with a free audit and is quoted in USD.

AI SEO

What an AI SEO agency does, in plain words

An AI SEO agency optimizes your business for AI search engines, so that when someone asks an assistant for a recommendation, your name is in the answer.

People no longer type two words and scroll. They ask full questions: “who’s a good immigration lawyer in Houston who speaks Spanish?” or “best family dentist near Pasadena that takes Delta Dental.” ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Google’s AI Overviews answer with a short list of businesses and the sources they read to build it. Being on that list is the new version of being on page one.

The industry uses several names for this work. GEO (generative engine optimization) and AEO (answer engine optimization) describe roughly the same job: making your information easy for an AI system to find, trust and quote. We call it AI SEO on this page because that’s the term most business owners search for. The “AI” is the search engine we optimize for. The research, strategy and writing are done by our team, the same people you talk to.

Rankeo works with small businesses in the United States and Mexico, many of them bilingual. Our goal for every client is simple to state: get recommended by ChatGPT and the other assistants, and keep ranking on Google while doing it.

How it works

How AI assistants decide who to recommend

Most AI answers about local businesses and services are built from a live web search and then summarized. If that search can’t find you, the assistant can’t mention you.

Each assistant reads the web through a different door. Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on Google’s own index, and Google’s Search Central documentation says a page only needs to be indexed and eligible to show a snippet to appear as a supporting link, with no extra technical requirements. Gemini also grounds its answers in Google Search. Microsoft Copilot is grounded in Bing. ChatGPT search uses OpenAI’s crawler, OAI-SearchBot, and OpenAI’s documentation notes that sites which block it won’t appear in ChatGPT search answers. Perplexity uses its own crawler, PerplexityBot.

So the first job is plumbing: making sure each of those crawlers can reach your pages, and that you are indexed in both Google and Bing. Many small business sites have never been submitted to Bing, which quietly keeps them out of Copilot answers too. Others block AI crawlers by accident through a security plugin or a CDN setting.

The second job is evidence. Assistants favor sources that state facts plainly and that agree with each other: the same services, locations, hours and specialties on your website, your Google Business Profile, directories, review sites and local press. A 2024 study by researchers at Princeton University and partners (Aggarwal et al., “GEO: Generative Engine Optimization,” presented at KDD 2024) found that adding cited sources, quotations and statistics to a page raised its visibility in generative engine answers by up to 40% in their tests. Clear, well-supported content gets quoted more often.

Services

What our AI SEO services include

Everything an assistant needs to find your business, understand it and feel safe recommending it.

We start with access and indexing because nothing else matters until the crawlers can read your site. Then we work on what we call entity clarity: one consistent description of who you are, what you do and where, repeated across your site, your structured data and your profiles on other platforms. An assistant that finds three different versions of your business name or service list has less reason to name you.

The content work follows the way people ask. Each service page opens with a direct answer to the main question, then gives the details a buyer needs: who it’s for, what it includes, how long it takes, what it costs if you publish prices, and the real questions customers ask. We pull those questions from Google’s People Also Ask boxes and from search data, not from guesswork.

  • Crawler access audit: robots.txt, firewall and CDN rules that may block OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Googlebot or Bingbot.
  • Google and Bing indexing: Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, sitemaps and IndexNow.
  • Entity clarity: Organization and LocalBusiness schema, sameAs links to your profiles and one consistent description everywhere.
  • Answer-first pages: service pages and FAQs written around the real questions your customers ask.
  • Third-party mentions: directories, associations, local press and review sites that assistants cite.
  • Reviews with detail: a request flow that encourages customers to mention the service and the city.
  • English and Spanish: answers in both languages for bilingual markets.
  • llms.txt, when it helps: a proposed file, not yet confirmed by any major search engine, so we treat it as optional.
Foundation

Classic SEO still does the heavy lifting

AI answers lean heavily on pages that already rank well in regular search, so every AI SEO project includes solid traditional SEO underneath.

Google has said that the best practices for its AI features are the same SEO fundamentals that apply to Search in general. In practice, the pages cited in AI Overviews are very often pages that already rank on the first page for related searches. An agency that sells “AI optimization” without fixing your technical SEO, your keyword targeting and your content is skipping the part that does most of the work.

That’s why our AI SEO projects include keyword research with real search volume, technical fixes, on-page optimization and internal linking. For businesses that serve a specific city, the map pack is just as important as AI answers, and the two feed each other: your Google Business Profile, reviews and city pages are also sources that assistants read. You can see how we handle that side on our local SEO agency page.

Process

Our AI SEO process, week by week

We measure where you stand before we change anything, so the progress in month four can be compared with a real starting point.

Week 1

AI visibility baseline

We write a fixed set of prompts your customers would ask and run them in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google AI Mode. We log who gets named and which sources get cited.

Week 2

Access and indexing

Crawler rules, robots.txt, sitemaps, Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Every page you care about is reachable and indexed.

Weeks 3 to 4

Entity and schema

One consistent description of your business, structured data on every key page and profiles on other platforms aligned with your site.

Weeks 5 to 8

Answer-first content

Service pages rewritten to answer questions directly, FAQs built from People Also Ask data and new pages for questions nobody in your market answers well.

Weeks 9 to 12

Mentions and reviews

Listings, associations, local press and review requests that give assistants more independent sources that agree about you.

Month 4 onward

Re-test and adjust

We run the same prompts every month, compare them with the baseline and decide what to work on next.

Timelines vary. Assistants that run a live search, like Perplexity and ChatGPT search, can pick up changes within weeks of a page being indexed. Answers that depend on a model’s training data change much more slowly. Google AI Overviews tend to follow your progress in regular Google rankings.

Measurement

How we measure AI visibility

AI answers change from one session to the next, so we track trends across a fixed set of prompts and real traffic data, never a single screenshot.

Bing Webmaster Tools now includes an AI Performance report that shows how often your pages are cited in Microsoft Copilot and Bing’s AI-generated answers, and which pages get cited. It’s one of the few first-party sources of AI citation data available to site owners, and we set it up for every client.

Google Search Console counts clicks and impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode inside the regular Performance report, without a separate filter. We watch the queries and pages connected to your AI work and how their impressions and clicks move.

Google Analytics 4 shows visits that arrive from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com and copilot.microsoft.com.

Our prompt log records, each month, whether your business is mentioned, whether it’s linked and which competitors appear for the same questions. We also ask you to track “how did you hear about us?” on calls and forms, because some people read an AI answer and then search your name directly. We explain the method en español in our guide cómo medir si ChatGPT recomienda tu negocio.

  • Mentions and citations across the monthly prompt set, by assistant.
  • Copilot and Bing AI citations from Bing’s AI Performance report.
  • Search Console clicks and impressions for the pages we worked on.
  • Referral visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot.
  • Leads, and which ones mention an AI assistant.
  • Competitors named for the same questions.
Who it’s for

Who AI SEO is a good fit for

Businesses whose customers ask for a recommendation before they buy, and where one new client is worth real money.

AI assistants get asked for advice most often in categories where the buyer feels some risk: choosing a lawyer, a clinic, a contractor, a school, a private flight. In those categories a mention in ChatGPT or an AI Overview carries a lot of trust, and the businesses that show up first collect most of the calls.

It also works well for bilingual markets. Many Spanish-speaking customers in the U.S. now ask their questions to an assistant in Spanish, and fewer businesses have clear Spanish content for the assistant to cite. If that’s your market, read our Spanish page on SEO para negocios hispanos en Estados Unidos, or the city pages for Houston, Los Angeles and Miami, all en español.

If you have no website yet, AI SEO starts with building one, through our Website + SEO + GEO project.

  • Professional services: law firms, accountants, consultants, insurance.
  • Health: dentists, clinics, specialists, med spas.
  • Home services: contractors, remodeling, roofing, HVAC.
  • Travel and hospitality: charters, tours, boutique hotels.
  • Education: schools, academies, training programs.
  • B2B companies with long, considered purchases.
Pricing

What AI SEO costs with Rankeo

We quote every U.S. project in USD after your free audit, which includes a first look at how AI assistants describe your business today.

The scope depends on what the audit finds: whether crawlers can reach your site, how many services and cities need their own pages, how much content needs rewriting, whether you want Spanish pages and how many competitors already appear in AI answers for your questions. AI SEO is included in all three of our formats, so you don’t pay for it as a separate add-on.

The audit is free, with no obligation and no credit card. You get the diagnosis and a fixed price in USD. See what each format includes on our pricing section, or request your free audit.

  • Website + SEO + GEO: a one-time project with a new site ready for Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews.
  • Authority: a one-time project with pages for each service and city, a blog and competitor analysis.
  • Monthly SEO + GEO: new content, AI visibility tracking, Google Business Profile and a monthly report. Six-month minimum.
Before you hire

How to compare AI SEO agencies

Ask how they measure AI visibility, and be wary of promises nobody can keep.

There is no form to submit your business to ChatGPT, and no agency can guarantee that an assistant will recommend you. Answers vary by user, location and session. An honest AI SEO agency will show you a baseline, explain its method and report trends over time.

Also look closely at how the content gets made. Publishing hundreds of thin pages to “feed the AI” tends to backfire: Google’s spam policies cover scaled content created mainly to manipulate rankings, and assistants prefer sources with real expertise. Every page Rankeo publishes is researched, written and reviewed by our team and approved by you.

  • How do you measure whether ChatGPT or AI Overviews mention us?
  • Which prompts will you track, and can I see the baseline?
  • Do you also handle technical SEO and Google rankings?
  • Who writes the content, and who approves it?
  • What do I own if we stop working together?

FAQ

AI SEO questions, answered

What is an AI SEO agency?

An AI SEO agency optimizes a business for AI search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Google AI Overviews, so the assistant mentions and links to that business when people ask for a recommendation. It works alongside traditional SEO, since AI answers lean on pages that already rank.

Is there an AI that can do SEO?

Software can speed up parts of SEO, such as crawling a site or pulling keyword data, but it can’t own the strategy, judge what your customers need or take responsibility for results. At Rankeo, the research, strategy and writing are done by our team, and every page is approved by you.

Can AI agents do SEO?

AI agents can run narrow tasks, like checking for broken links or drafting a report, but SEO depends on decisions about your market, your offer and your brand that need a person who understands the business. Google’s spam policies also penalize content mass-produced to manipulate rankings.

Which AI SEO agency in the USA is the best?

There’s no official ranking, and many “best agency” lists are paid placements. Compare agencies on evidence: ask for a baseline of how AI assistants describe your business today, the prompts they will track and how they report progress. Rankeo’s audit, which includes that first look, is free.

How do I get my business recommended by ChatGPT?

Make sure OpenAI’s crawler, OAI-SearchBot, can reach your site and that you’re indexed in Bing and Google. Then publish clear pages that answer your customers’ questions, keep your business details consistent everywhere and earn mentions and reviews on sites that ChatGPT reads.

What is the difference between SEO, GEO and AEO?

SEO aims to rank pages in search results. GEO (generative engine optimization) and AEO (answer engine optimization) aim to get your business cited inside AI-generated answers. They share the same foundation, which is why we handle them together.

How do you measure visibility in AI search?

We run a fixed set of customer prompts every month in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google AI Mode, and log mentions and citations. We add Bing’s AI Performance report, Search Console data, AI referral traffic in Google Analytics and the leads you receive.

Does AI search replace Google SEO?

No. Google is still where most searches happen, and AI Overviews are built from Google’s index. Ranking well in Google makes it more likely you’ll be cited in AI answers too, so we work on both at once.

How long until ChatGPT or AI Overviews mention my business?

Assistants that search the web live, like Perplexity and ChatGPT search, can reflect changes within weeks of your pages being indexed. AI Overviews tend to follow your Google rankings, which usually take 3 to 6 months to move. We set expectations in the audit.

Can you guarantee my business will appear in AI answers?

No one can. AI answers change by user, location and session, and the assistants decide what to show. What we can do is remove the obstacles, build the evidence assistants look for and report the trend every month against your starting point.
